    1 From May 2013 to July 2014 I surveyed the bus route from Kanazawa Hakkei to Sobu-zuido. From the bus window I recorded the scavenged garbage collection sites and also counted the number of crows nearby (Jungle crow Corvus macrorhynchos, Carrion crow Corvus corona).
    2 I recorded the 3 types of garbage collection sites (exposed plastic bags, covered with nets, use of garbage containers). The results at the end of the surveyed showed that of 55 sites 0 (0%) were exposed plastic bags, 30 (53.6%) were covered with nets and 26 (46.4%) used garbage containers. I compared the type of garbage collection sites in Tokyo and Kawasaki in 2000 with the present study sites and concluded that the present study sites use a lot more nets and garbage containers.
    3 Seasonal changes of scavenged garbage collection sites by crows and the number of crows to be similar with a decrease in the summer, increase in the winter and a sharp increase in the spring. I assume that due to both the change in diet and behavior of crows in the breeding and non-breeding season along with the amount and method of garbage disposal by residents has an influence.
    4 I compared the weekly changes in the number of crows at the scavenged garbage collection sites. There was a tendency of scavenged garbage with a noticeable increase on burnable garbage days (Tues, Sat.). There was a gradual increase from Wednesday to Saturday. I then compare this with the day following burnable garbage days (Wed., Sun.) which showed an increase especially on Sundays. With these results it appears that the local residents do not follow the garbage pick-up time rules, especially on the weekend.

    1 From 2008, telemetric transmitters used in tracking have to follow the standard specification code under the Radio Act.
    2 Performances of 2 types of legalized transmitters (LT-01 for medium-sized animals and LT-02-2 for birds: Circuit Design Inc) were tested and compared with conventional type (M2940: ATS)
    3 Performance of legalized transmitters were not much different from the conventional beacon-type transmitter, however, direction detection was somewhat difficult.
    4 The maximum detection distance of LT-02-2 was about half of LT-01. This was not a serious problem in actual tracking.
