For assisting in development of computer aided systems for medical image diagnosis, we have already developed two expert systems 3D-IMPRESS and 3D-IMPRESS-Pro for automated construction of three dimensional(3D) image processing procedures. Evaluation criteria used in these systems are different. While 3D-IMPRESS puts stress on shape similarity of the extracted result with the corresponding sample figure to be extracted, 3D-IMPRESS-Pro places stress on classification accuracy for the given sample figure set. In this paper, characteristics of 3D image processing procedures constructed by each system are comparatively investigated based on the difference of evaluation criteria mentioned above. To do it practically, we apply both systems to construction of procedures for extracting abnormal shadows from real 3D chest CT images, and discuss the difference between performances of procedures obtained.
