This paper records the drift and content of an excursion for university students conducted in outer of urban central area of Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. In this excursion, I clarified the changes and their meanings in urban society by using various facilities. For example, this excursion dealt with (1) decline of a local railway and use of an abandoned school building from the perspective of industrial relations, (2) elimination of university dormitories and support for students by the city government, (3) tourism and resident use of historical buildings and urban spaces originating from the Edo period. As a result, despite the small area of less than 700 m radius, this excursion had the following significance: (1) The themes are familiar to university students and attracted their interest. (2) The participants were able to understand the region from various perspectives from a view of regional geography, as well as to understand individual cases in the context of general social phenomena from a view of systematic geography.
