In this study, we prepared an alumina fiber-reinforced alumina-based ceramics as a new type of dental ceramics using a tape casting technique. The results showed that the sintering shrinkage and the bending properties of alumina fiber-reinforced alumina-based ceramics exceeded that of unreinforced alumina; the positive effects of fiber reinforcement were clearly observed.

From the previous study, the transformation of gypsum to HAp by treating in ammonium phosphate solution was discovered. While recent Rapid Prototyping technique such as 3-D Printing allows fabrication of gypsum bone model from CT bone image. In this study, the transformation of gypsum 3-D Printing model to HAp by treating in ammonium phosphate solution was attempted.

The hydrophobic effect is thought to be an important factor stabilizing the higher-order structure of collagen. Here, the effects of some hydrophobic materials related to dental adhesive components on the collagen stability were investigated, using a differential scanning calorimetry and circular dichroism measurements. In hydrophobic environments the decrease in denaturation temperature, as well as an inhibition of gelation of collagen, was observed. The relation between the hydrophobicity and the wettability of adhesive components were discussed.

To develop a differentiation screening method using 3D culture with ES cells, EBs were cultured for 21 days, in a culture media of collagen gel and chemicals affecting differentiation. The chemicals consisted of cytokines, vitamins, BMP, Emdogain and four adrenocortical hormones. The results of this study have shown that the effects of chemical substances on ES cell differentiation can be determined with the 3D culture method by collagen.

Rapid prototyping (RP) technologies have recently been aided in dentistry. In oral implant surgery, surgical stent is needed to determine the position and guide the path of insertion of the implant. At present, we had developed surgical stent by RP method called FDM(Fused deposition modeling) which can be placed directly on the jaw bone due to better stability. In this study, bone surgical stent was CAD by using haptic device and model of mandible was fabricated by RP (rapid prototyping) called FDM. The precision of fabricated bone surgical stent from CAD data and jaw bone model is examined.
