We have reported that the bond strengths to Er:YAG laser-irradiated dentin increase by application of GLUMA
®Desensitizer. However, the long-term bond strength to Er:YAG laser-irradiated dentin treated with GLUMA
®Desensitizer is not reported. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of GLUMA®Desensitizer on long-term tensile bond strength of a self-etching adhesive system to Er:YAG laser-irradiated dentin.In conclusion, it was suggested that the application of GLUMA
®Desensitizer to Er:YAG laser-irradiated dentin was useful for the long-term bond strength of a self-etching adhesive system.

Surface composition of Ag-Pd-Au-Cu based alloy castings is different from that of bulk. It is consider that sulfuration resistance of castings depends on composition of the surface layer. It is easy to come to tarnish on high copper density. We tried reforming of the outer layer by selective dissolution treatment which decline Cu and Ag to improve sulfuration resistance.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of sintering temperature on in vitro and in vivo bone compatibilities of the sintered TCP sheet prepared by a tape casting technique. The results showed that there were significant differences in the bone compatibilities between the sintered TCP sheets with the different temperatures. Moreover, it was concluded that the tape-cast TCP sheet prepared in the present study has the potential for bone substitute.

Reticulated calcium phosphates crystallites with three dimensional network structures were fabricated, using octacalcium phosphate crystals grown in poly acryl amide gel. The mineral phase, size, and shape of crystallites and the structure of the networks were controlled by CIP before calcining and calcining temperature.

To measure the micro-tensile bond strength (MTBS) on sound and carious primary tooth dentin using an original designed jig that was developed for making symmetric and uniformly sized specimens for the micro-tensile strength testing. The MTBS of dummbbell-shaped specimens for sound teeth bonded with Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray) or Single Bond (3M), and matchstick-shaped specimens for sound and carious teeth bonded with Clearfil SE Bond were measured. The correlations between the MTBS and location of the sample-sectioning, and the MTBS and fracture mode after MTBS testing were obtained.

We examined the chemical interaction of 10-MDP and a hydroxyapatite (HAp) particle used for a self-etching system by various structural analysis techniques. In early period of reaction, 10-MDP chemisorbed on the calcium sites of the HAp surface. The 10-MDP monomers reacted with calcium ions dissolved from HAp due to the decalcification function of a 10-MDP monomer and resulted in the deposition of calcium salt (MDPCa) of 10-MDP on HAp. As reaction advances, calcium hydrogenphosphate dihydrate (DCPD) also deposited on the MDPCa. The dissolution (decalcification) of HAp by a 10-MDP monomer and the deposition of calcium salts were caused on the HAp surface.

Manipulation of cell dynamics and functions is ideal technology for tissue engineering approach. We applied mechanical stimulation to vascular endothelial cells and tried to manipulate cell dynamics in this study. Here, we found that cyclic uniaxial strain regulates cell alignment and migration direction, and also observed position specific cell proliferation related to cell migration.

We evaluated the cell viability of macrophage-like RAW264 cells cultured in media mixed with diluted solutions of HCl solution containing titanium ions. When cultured in 1000 times diluted 20% HCl solution, the cell viability declined to 70% relative to the control. When cultured in 1000 times diluted 20% HCl solution containing 1000 ppm titanium ions, the cell viability decreased to 55% relative to the control. It was hinted that titanium ions formed complex, which was phagocytized by the cell, leading to reduced cell viability.

The metal-encapsulating carbon nanocapsules (MECNCs) which are several tens of nanometers in diameter and consist of a graphene sheet structure encapsulating a metallic carbide. MECNCs have a surface covered by a graphene sheet, so they have quite high chemical stability. In the capsule, lanthanide is usually encapsulated as a carbide. Therefore, MECNCs will provide higher imaging and tracing efficiencies as contrast agents or tracers. We prepared the various lanthanide containing MECNCs and their structural change in the purification was studied. MECNCs were oxidized with the heat treatment at 400C or higher, but MECNCs showed no change less than 400C. The cytotoxicity of MECNCs was also studied and no severe cytotoxicity was induced.

The age-hardening behaviour, phase transformation and related microstructural changes of an Ag-Cu-Pd-Au alloy were examined by means of hardness test, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopic observations and electron probe microanalysis. By aging the solution-treated specimen, two phases of the Ag-rich alpha 1 and the Pd-containing Cu-rich alpha 2 were transformed into four phases of the Ag-rich alpha 1' and the Pd-containing Cu-rich alpha 2', the CsCl-type CuPd and the AuCuI ordered phases. Microstructure of the solution-treated specimen consisted of the Ag-rich alpha 1 matrix and the Cu-rich alpha 2 particle-like structures of various sizes and the lamellar structure of the alpha 1 and alpha 2 phases. When the peak hardness was obtained, the very fine lamellar structure consisting of the Ag-rich alpha 1' and Cu-rich alpha 2' phases was newly formed in the matrix. By further aging, the fine lamellar structure grew and coarsened apparently. The hardness increase was considered to be caused mainly by the diffusion and precipitation of Cu from the Ag-rich alpha 1 matrix, and the hardness decrease was caused by the coarsening of the fine lamellar structure. The CsCl-type CuPd and the AuCuI ordered phases did not contribute to the hardness increase.
