This study is to propose an evaluation method for resource scarcity using thermodynamic approach. Current methodologies have some limitations on the target time horizon and influences of technological changes on the resource scarcity for future generation. In this study, total exergy loss of resource uses is used as a measure for resource scarcity. Based on historical data, the cut-off ore grades, cumulative productions of several minerals, and total exergy loss of resource uses could be estimated for different target-time-horizons like 25, 50, and 100 years. The values of total exergy loss are used as characterization values for resource safeguard subjects.
