The author asserts that the information study as liberal arts is constructed based on the concept of information and this concept should be determined. In this paper, after the discussing the concepts of information according to Shannon, Wiener, Bateson, Maturana & Varela and Nishigaki, Nishigaki’s concept that “the information is considered as function that makes meaning in living thing” should be adopted. Furthermore knowledge or knowing which deeply relate with the concept of information are discussed according to autopoiesis and constructivism. From this discussion education is constructed by understanding not to transmit knowledge but to inspire learner’s knowing. After this the author reports the design and practice of an information study based on these considering.
