Research consultation as a type of reference service is discussed focusing its educational nature and practice based on the authorʼs experience of 15 years （1998-2013） at Osaka University Life Sciences Library. Difference and relation between its educational aspect and its function of information provision is considered with relation to user needs. The construction of educational service by the library is also discussed.

Using the loan records（April 2010 to March 2015）of the Aichi Medical University Medical Information Center and Library, we investigated the areas of interest to nurses, nursing students, nursing graduates, student of certified nurse and teaching staff.
The area of greatest interest to this subset of users was N200（Classification for Nursing Library（JNA））, followed by N500 and N000 for nurses and nursing students, N100 for graduates of nursing and students of certified nursing courses, and N100 and N000 for the nursing staff.
We investigated the correlations in the areas of interest among the users. The areas of interest for nurses and nursing students were similar, and those of nursing graduates and students of certified nursing courses were similar. Furthermore, the areas of interest for the teaching staff were similar to those for nurses, nursing students, nursing graduates, and students of certified nursing courses.
