From the experience of Medical Director of 18th Winter Olympic Games in Nagano 1988, history of Olympic medicine as a part of medical science is described. Several studies has been reported from the view point of mass gathering medicine. In 2020 Tokyo Olympic games, Olympic medicine based on mass gathering medicine should be a key factor to succeed the games safety.
