In "Japan-China Joint Research on Anomalous Somatic Functions", the authors visited the Somatic Science Laboratory at Yunnan University, China in 1997. The authors were given a chance to attend a screening test for subjects. The test was done at a primary school in Yunnan ; Longxiang Xiaoxue. 51 children tried to recognize targets written on a rolled paper inserted to their ears for about 2 hours. Total number of trials is 179,and the number of trials for a person is from 0 to 10 ; average is 3.5 trial/person. 18 trials were considered as hits, and averages were 0.1 hit/trial. However, researchers of Yunnan judged that this result was not good.

JSPP had its memorable meeting in the 30th Annual Convention held at Hokutopia, Tokyo, on December 4,1997 : Remembering the JSPP Convention 1st to 30th. Four panelists who have been an activated member since JSPP's foundation, talked with their rich experiences in the study of parapsychology. In the talks courageous youths in parapsychology would recognize the history of making and development of JSPP and find prospect for their own research to come.
