    An analytical method based on the potential theory is presented to predict the direction of outlet flow from cascade of airfoils where pitch-chord ratio is relatively small. The analytical results are compared with some of the theoretical and experimental results and the validity of the analysis is confirmed to some extent, although there exist systematic discrepancies between the theory and experiments, which are mainly attributed to the existence of viscosity. The present theory provides a theoretical back ground to some of the empirical formulas predicting the direction of outlet flow. The effects of compressibility on the direction of outlet flow are also estimated by applying Prandtl-Glauert rule for cascade to the present analysis. The general tendencies are that little change of direction of outlet flow is concluded for compressor cascade and the decrease of deviation is noticed for turbine cascade with the increase in Mach number.

    In this report, the author has measured velocity, total and static pressures and direction of flow in the impeller as three-dimension, under higher number of revolution than the 1st report.From these results, it has been revealed that the secondary flow take possession of large distribution of parts on the flow condition, and the flow condition is so very complicated as it is impossible to conjecture by two-dimensional potential theory, as things are.

    The Venturi scrubber is being used successfully for the removal of micron and submicron particle matter, both in solid or liquid state, from gas streams. The collection is thought to be mainly to the deposition of particles on water droplets by impaction, and the separation number of the particle determines the deposition efficiency. This paper reports a theoretical study of the collection efficiency at the Venturi throat. Some calculations are illustrated, and the results indicate that the throat length has an important effect upon the collection.

    Analysis of discontinuous potential flow in two dimensional field is one of the essential branches of hydrodynamics and offers many interesting examples. Here is given an analysis of a flow through an opening bounded with straight line segments forming three stagnation points, as is found in the case of one variation of labyrinth packing or flap valve. With the aid of elliptic integrals, the flow field is mapped onto the interior of a rectangle. Some numerical examples are calculated and also reported here. It was known that in ordinary cases the coefficient of contraction is between or about 0.5 and 0.611.

    The authors determined experimentally the discharge coefficients c of inlet nozzles, whose diameters range from one inch to 10'6 inches about air, water and oil flow. Experimental formula of c correlated to Reynold's number coincide with the experimental results are shown in Fig. 8.

    This supplement treats the following items : 1) The effect of initial condition of the trapping flow on the pressure rise was dealt with, and the very small effect has been shown. 2) The change of pressure distribution along the relief groove was treated and shown (Fig. 6). 3) The effect of partition of the relief groove on the delivery has been treated. The results are : The relief groove has the same efffect on the delivery range and the suction range of trapping. If the thickness of partition wall is given, the symmetrical groove is effective, and the very thin wall is found most effective. If the relief groove on one side is fixed, the groove shows the corresponding effect depending upon the thickness of partition (Fig. 9). 4) When the cavitation occurs in the trapping flow, the relief groove is more effective for the shorter groove on suction side and the longer groove on delivery side (Fig. 14).

    Among my experimental researches on the labyrinth packing of the straight-through type, the following two itemes are reported in this paper. (1) On the effect of the "Sub-Fin"-It is expected that leakage loso through a labyrinth packing would be reduced when the small sub-fins are put in between two throttling fins. This problem was experimentally ascertained. Moreover, the flow patterns in the pocket of the labyrinth packing are discussed basing on experiments of smoke tunnel. (2) On the effect of the "Inequal-pitched Throttling"-When the pitch of the throttling fins are inequal set, good sealing effect would be expected. From the experiments, it was obvious that well designed inequall-pitched throttling gives more effective sealing than ordinally equal-pitched throttling.

    Though numerous studies of disc friction of smooth surface were already carried out, but the detail discussions of disc friction of rough surface have not still been performed. Experiments were carried out for both cases of discs with smooth surface, and rough surface consisting of sand-grain of various size and shape. The main results obtained may be sumarized as follows : 1) For a certain value of clearance, the resistance coefficient takes a minimum value. 2) Resistance moment of cast-iron disc is equal to that of the roughness IV surface of disc (average dia. of sand-grain is 0.04 mm). 3) Let Cf1, Cf2 and Cf3 be the increment value of resistance coefficient of a rough disc in rough vessel, rough disc in smooth vessel and smooth disc in rough vessel, respectively, we obtain the following relation, C <f1>≒2 C <f2>≒4 Cf3, where the increment value means the increase to resistance coefficient of smoth disc in smooth vessel.
