本稿の目的は,政治・経済の授業内で数学の知識を利用していく「教科横断型授業」を実践することにあった。数学の分野ではしばしば具体的な例が用いられないという問題があり,これが数学離れを生じさせている可能性がある。他方,政治・経済をはじめとする文系科目では,数学的知識を用いて理解する事が少ないため,学習者はこれを暗記科目と捉え,「丸暗記」を目指してしまう傾向にある。そこで本研究では,数学分野と政治・経済分野の両者で学習する傾向の高い「信用創造」に着目し,貸出しの流れが等比数列によって,最終的な預金総額が無限等比級数によって数学的に説明できることを生徒に学習してもらった。さらに,実践内容の効果を検証するために質問紙調査を実施し,期末考査で習熟度を確認した。「貸出しの流れ」の計算と「貸出しの結果として生まれる総額」の計算が,学習過程で別のものとして捉えられている可能性について議論した。
