    A combination of petawatt laser and nuclear physics techniques can facilitate studies for exotic nuclei properties. In this article, the Laser-driven Exotic Nuclei extraction-acceleration method is discussed. A femtosecond petawatt laser extracts the short-lived heavy exotic nuclei created by an external ion beam via nuclear reactions in a target, and accelerates them to high energy in a form of highly charged nuclei. This technique has a significant novelty comparing to the conventional method and facilitates studies for exotic nuclei which will make a big contribution to understand the cosmological nucleosynthesis and astronomical high energy phenomena.

    Long-term variations in the spatial displacement of the tunnel floor at the KEKB injector linac have been analyzed based on spatiotemporal evolution of ground motion measured with a remote-controllable sensing system. The amount of the displacement data has been recorded at a fixed interval since January 2016 in order to directly validate random walk characteristics of the tunnel-floor displacement due to the complex ground motion. The ATL law is well known as an experimental rule in geophysics field, which describes stochastic spatiotemporal evolution of ground motion. Based on the stochastic spatiotemporal evolution of ground motion, displacement level of the tunnel floor may only increase without any periodicity nor reduction. If the spatiotemporal evolution of the displacement level is too large, we may have to discuss again about the high precision alignment required for the injector linac. In this report, based on the long-term dynamic variations in the spatiotemporal displacement of the tunnel floor measured at the injector linac, the spatiotemporal evolution of ground motion is investigated to test directly the ATL law, and the magnitude of the parameter in the ATL law is quantitatively evaluated.

    The 9th Asian Forum for Accelerators and Detectors (AFAD)1) was held from 28 to 31 January 2018, in Daejeon, Korea. AFAD was organized by the Asian Committee of Future Accelerators (ACFA)2) to promote collaboration among universities and research institutes in Asia and Oceania. The major focus of the forum was given to the fields of accelerators, detectors and related technologies both in industry and research sectors. AFAD 2018 was hosted by the Rare Isotope Science Project team3) of the Institute for Basic Science (IBS)4) and the Division of Quantum Engineering and Nuclear Fusion, Korean Nuclear Society5).
