In this study, we synthesized (Bi,RE)
4(Ti,Mo,Si)
3O
12 (RE=La,Nd) and investigated their properties, crystal structure and ferroelectric performances. From
P-
E hysteresis measurements, it was confirmed that
Pr increased and
Ec decreased by substituting Mo or adding BSO. Crystal structure analysis indicates that spontaneous polarization tend to be resulted from distortion of the perovskite layer. It is also suggested that Mo-substitution and BSO-addition have a significant effect on the perovskite layer.

In this research, two kinds of raw material powders were used to produce transparent yttria ceramics without the CIP forming. Then, the powder's particle sizes and HIP pressures on transparent yttria ceramics were discussed. Raw material powders were pressed unaxially at 50 Mpa,pre-sintered with pressureless sintering at 1873 K, for 4 hours and lastly were HIP sintered at 100-180 Mpa. It is found that the HIP pressure influenced the translucency of yttria specimens.

Novel hybride multifunctionalized nanoparticles have been synthesized successfully using organosilica particle technology. The hybride multifunctionalized nanoparticles were monodispersed in solution and have unique surface and internal properties. Fluorescent hybride multifunctionalized nanoparticles were synthesized via one pot synthesis by using various interactions between internal residue in organosilica layer and fluorescent dye or fluorescent dye conjugate. The hybride multifunctionalized nanoparticles have functional residues on the surface that could be modified with biomolecules. We demonstrate the advantages of the hybride multifunctionalized nanoparticless using organosilica particle technology, and their usefulness for biological and medical applications and so on.

There has been a growing interest in bio-alcohols for oil-substituted fuels because they can be associated with greenhouse gases emissions reductions. One crucial aspect for utilizing bio-alcohols is the separation of mixed water from bio-alcohols. Since alcohols have hydrophobic groups such as alkyl chains, hydrophobic porous membranes have been used for the water/alcohol separation. In this study, a perfluorosulfonate ionomer (Nafion) was deposited on monodispersed silica particles with 10 um diameter via layer-by-layer assembly technique. The thickness of a Nafion layer changed 2~10 nm using different types of polycation. The particle became hydrophobic, and the contact angle for water droplet on the particles was more than 150 deg. The preparation of hydrophilic/hydrophobic particles and those application for water/alcohol separations are discussed.

Itacolumite (flexible sandstone), which exists in nature, is composed of quartz grains and three-dimensional cracks among the grains similar to the jigsaw puzzle. This particular microstructure induces flexibility. Some flexible ceramics could be prepared by mimicking the microstructure of itacolumite. Among them, aluminium titanate (Al2TiO5) showed a good ductile deformation similar to itacolumite. The grain boundary microcracking in this material is due to an anisotropic thermal expansion of crystal axes. The grain growth increased with sintering temperature and with sintering time. The bigger the grains were, the more important the grain boundary microcracking on cooling after sintering was. Thus, the flexibility also increased with the sintering temperature and with sintering time.

Barium titanate (BaTiO3, BT)/strontium titanate (SrTiO3, ST) multilayer complex nanoparticles were prepared by solvothermal method using titanium chelate complex compounds
(Ti(AcAc)2(i-Pro)2). First, preparation condition of BT nanoparticles was investigated as functions of temperature, Ba/Ti atomic ratio, solvents and so on. As a result, formation mechanism of BT nanoparticles was proposed in this study. For ST nanoparticles, similar investigation was performed. Finally, on the basis of proposed formation mechanism, formation of BT/ST complex nanoparticles were investigated.
