Silica/titania hollow nano-hybrid particles were prepared by the sol-gel method. At first, we synthesized polystyrene (PS)/silica core-shell particles. Secondary, we coated these particles with titania and then we obtained silica/titania hollow hybrid particle by heat decomposition of the PS core.
In this study, we changed the concentration of titanium alkoxide to coat the silica particles. The surface morphology and the crystal structure of the silica/titania particles were observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD).

Due to the unique bone structure of electrically conductive porous alumina (CPA), increased interests have been attracted to develop a series of potential applications in many fields. Determined from the nano-carbon networks (NCN) with graphitic crystal structure in CPA, it is believed that CPA could be suitable for electrode materials. NCN can supply increased electronic double layer charges by comparing with other commonly utilized electrode. Moreover, by surface modifications with uniformly dispersed Pt and Ni nanoparticles, enhanced performances could be arrived, which was attributed to the co-function of CPA and deposited functional particles.

Present paper suggests olivine-type LiInSiO4 and LiInGeO4 as candidate materials for fast Li ionic conductor predicted by ab initio density functional studies. The nudged elastic band approach showed extremely small energy barrier for Li ion hopping to neighboring sites with 0.23 eV for LiInGeO4 and 0.36 eV for LiInSiO4. However, formation energy for the intrinsic defects including Li vacancy sites is expected to be large (more than ~1.5 eV), which suppresses ionic conductivity severely. Therefore, doping strategy, i.e. introduction of higher valent cations into olivine structure, may required to create Li vacancy sites.

Electrode properties of ruthenium oxide nanosheet films composed of 1 oxide layer were investigated by cyclic voltammetry tests. Nanosheet ultra-thin films were prepared by Langmuir¬¬–Blodgett method. Cyclic voltammograms of nanosheet ultra-thin films showed very sharp and symmetrical redox peaks which were not observed for bulk materials. Nanosheet ultra-thin films enabled to observe electrochemical behavior of the very surface of electrode and obtain a better understanding of the intrinsic electrochemical properties.

In this study, first-principles calculation within the density-functional perturbation theory was performed to investigate the change of electromechanical coupling factor of LiNbO3 with substitutional elements; Na, K, Rb, Cs. As ionic radius of the dopant is increased, electromechanical coupling factor is found to be increased, although crystal was found to be mechanically unstable when Cs was substituted. In addition, it was found that the changes of the piezoelectric constants are originated in the changes of the elastic response along the polarization axis, which is thought to be induced by the electrostatic repulsion between dopants and surrounding cation.

When defect of tumors or bone fractures significantly reduced QOL. Conventional materials were used as defect-filler. However, recently trends were reconstructive materials with function of bone regeneration. We developed bone regenerative ceramics devices with high porous and well-controlled pore structure as "triple pore structure". There were consists of macro pore, inter-pore, and micro pore. Macro pore has optimized size of bone regenerate and growth. Inter-pore were connection of macro pore to macro pore. Micro pore were distributed on macro pore wall. We observed that ceramics material were excellent bone regeneration and growth from implantation testing of animals.

Octacalcium phosphate is regarded as a precursor of biological hydroxyapatite (HA) which is a main inorganic constituent of human bones and teeth. It is important to reveal the transformation mechanism of OCP to HA for revealing the mechanism of bone formation and for development of biomedical materials for bone. In this study, OCP particles were immersed in purified water. Those particles were characterized in detail and the transformation model of OCP to HA was proposed. The transformation of OCP to HA was presumed as topotactic transformation. The particles would probably be split by lattice strain and compositional fluctuation.
