Purpose: Few studies have investigated the treatment outcomes and adverse events after using jidabokuippo (JDI), including the concomitant use of Kampo prescriptions and analgesics. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the efficacy and safety of JDI in real-world clinical practice.

Methods: The study included 306 patients who were treated with JDI. Treatment outcomes and adverse events were compared according to age, sex, presence or absence of comorbidities, concomitant use of Kampo prescriptions and analgesics, daily dose of JDI, duration of administration, and the starting time of administration. The patients were divided into two groups: effective and ineffective.

Results: Concomitant use of Kampo prescriptions and analgesics was observed in 14.1% and 58.2% of the patients, respectively. The efficacy rate of JDI was 97.7%. The duration of JDI treatment in the analgesic group was significantly longer than that in the non-analgesic group (p = 0.0100). None of the patients reported any adverse events.

Conclusion: The efficacy rate of JDI was as high as 97.7% and no adverse events were observed. Adverse events can be prevented by being cautious of the side effects of Kampo prescriptions. However, the rate of concomitant use of analgesics was high, and the effects of reducing the dosage and frequency of analgesics remains to be determined.

Skin tear is a trauma that occurs in individuals with weakened skin due to various factors, and the initial treatment can significantly affect the subsequent healing process. We developed and used a skin tear manual with video, for educational purposes to promote appropriate initial treatment of skin tears. Data on skin tear was collected over two years to assess changes prompted by the introduction of the manual. The introduction of the manual increased awareness of skin tears and early intervention and led to seeking professional help. Furthermore, the data suggested that ongoing educational activities could enhance the preventive effect against skin tears.

Lifestyle medicine coaching has emerged as a valuable and supportive intervention for individuals facing the challenges of cancer. This approach recognizes the intricate interplay between lifestyle choices and cancer outcomes, emphasizing the importance of holistic care. By offering guidance on nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, and overall well-being, lifestyle medicine coaching equips cancer patients with the tools to actively participate in their healing journey.

We present a case report on lifestyle medicine coaching of a 42-year-old woman with stage IV renal carcinoma with lung metastasis. Over the course of 8 sessions, lifestyle interventions in nutrition, sleep, exercise, and stress management were discussed. Outcomes were followed over a 14-month period.

Through personalized strategies and ongoing support, lifestyle medicine coaching empowers patients to make informed decisions that can enhance their quality of life, alleviate treatment-related side effects, and foster a sense of control amidst uncertainty. Furthermore, it fosters a positive mindset and encourages resilience, factors that have shown promise in improving treatment adherence and long-term prognosis.
