This paper makes a formal analysis of the specification of a novel railway system, ATPB system, which is proposed by the authors. Firstly, on the basis of analyzing the requirements of the actual system, it established the specification of the ATPB system by VDM++. Secondly it proved the internal consistency which can guarantee there is no runtime error; and then it validated the satisfiability, which is used to make sure that the specification satisfies the requirement. At last, it simulated the system strictly according to the formal specification.

In this paper, we deal with a preventive maintenance (PM) scheduling problem for a rolling stock system. We determine the optimal PM intervals for components in the rolling stock system. The system availability and life cycle cost are used as optimization criteria. For given three PM intervals, we assign a suitable interval to each component to minimize the system life cycle cost and to satisfy the required system availability. The system availability and system life cycle cost are estimated by simulation. A heuristic method is proposed to find the optimal PM intervals of all components. Numerical examples are also studied.
