  Silk fibers and fabrics pretreated with a silane coupling agent including mercapto group were grafted with dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate by the redox system. Grafted fibers and fabrics were formed the quaternary ammonium compound with methyl iodide in the solution of acetone or the mixed solution of isopropyl alcohol and water. The values of add-on for polymer up-take ratio after treatment reached about 5%, and showed the anti-bacterial effect. For the system of quaternarized at the monomer, the values of add-on tended smaller than that of the system for the former. Iodine atoms in the silk fiber were analysed by using an energy dispersive x-ray analysis system. the peaks of iodine were obviously detected in the former system. The mechanical properties for grafted silk were measured, the changes of them were slightly. The dyeability for grafted silk tended to be easy and darkness because of the cationic character of the monomer.

  In order to use microwave cocoon drying method considering its merits for drying of Bombyx mori cocoon, three kinds of cocoons were selected. The results of cocoon testing and raw silk testing were compared with the hot-air drying method. It was found that further development by making a combination among the parameters, such as wavelength of microwave, power of microwave oven and radiation time, and introducing a auxiliary equipment for reducing drying unevenness were necessary in order to establish an efficient drying method which will dry up fresh cocoons within a short period of time.

  We reeled various SHS which used core threads such as nylon66, polyester and bemberg. We investigated the physical characteristics of each SHS and the possibility of decreasing production costs on the rereeling process.
  In the result, Nylon66-SHS and Bemberg-SHS was found to decrease production costs by rereeling process. Increasing of cocoon fiber ratio, the physical characteristics of each SHS was improved. SHS was found to have a new materials by hybrid effects of cocoon fiber.

  A 2-directional measurement and classification system for cleanness and neatness was introduced into rereeling process. Experiments using the system showed that results of neatness points and small slugs were equal to those of test for them respectively.

  In the reeling process of crimp hybrid silk by combining crimp nylon treated by knit-deknit method with the cocoon filaments using air jet, better combining conditions were studied. In addition, the properties of fabrics made of crimp hybrid silk were studied.
  It has been observed that the air pressure of air jet nozzle, the diameter of the threading tube of air jet nozzle and the croissure length during reeling has significant influence on the combining state of cocoon filaments with crimp nylon in the production of crimp hybrid silk. It has also observed that croissure length has no influence on the combining state of false twisted nylon with cocoon filaments in the production of hybrid silk. From the results, better combining conditions were defined for the production of crimp hybrid silk.
  By using the crimp hybrid silk, the fabrics were woven. As a result, it was confirmed that the fabric was thin, light, transparent and bulky, and it had the characteristics of the fine wrinkles like georgette crepe.
