  The changes in micro-structural parameters in silk fibres due to stifling of cocoons have been studied using wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) method. The crystal imperfection parameters like crystal size <N>, lattice distortion (g) and enthalpy (α^*) has been determined by Fourier analysis and also by matching the simulated intensity profile obtained from one-dimensional Hosemann’s paracrystalline model using (201) reflection observed in these silk fibres. The volume weighted crystal sizes have been estimated and compared. The variations of tenacity and elongation results justify the X-ray results reported here.

  The changes in structural parameters of sericin due to hot air drying of cocoons have been studied using Ultra violet spectra method. The sericin present in the cocoon has been qualified depending upon the hot air drying method. The study reveals that hot air drying process hardens the sericin and reduces the dissolution of sericin during the process of cooking and reeling in case of lndian multi-bivoltine cocoons.

  The authors investigated the cocoon characteristics of “Hakugin” silkworms treated to tri-molter, the physical properties of silk thread (14 denier) and the thin fabrics. The average value of cocoon filament size of the “Hakugin” was 1.1 denier and the cocoon filament length was about 1,200m. Therefore, the cocoon filament size shows the value of 2/5 in comparison with the ordinary cocoons. The size deviation of silk thread was smaller than the ordinary cocoon’s silk thread, and the strength and Young’s modulus were a little bigger. The fundamental textual values; KOSHI (Stiffness) and HARI (Anti-drape stiffness), of the “Hakugin” fabrics were smaller than the ordinary cocoon’s fabrics, and SHINAYAKASA (Flexibility with soft feeling) was bigger. The node occurrence state (Drape property) was shaped. It is given a conclusion that the fabric made of super fine cocoon filament of the “Hakugin” is suitable to use the thin silk fabric of scarves, blouses, wedding dress and so on.

  In order to producing the promising breeding of thin filament and yellow cocoon, while raising several sorts of hybrids using C125 and examining the quality, the quality of the raw silk by this and textiles was examined. The results are summarized as follows :
  1. C6×C125 judged synthetically and they were considered to be a promising kind. Moreover, it turns out that the raw silk using thin filament cocoon shows a value with big tenacity.
  2. When weaving of the fabric of the thin ground was carried out using the raw silk of C6×C125, the KES value of SHINAYAKASA showed large, and it turns out that it has pliant and soft.

  Silk sheets, rayon sheets, and silk-rayon blend sheets were prepared by milling the fibers from wild silkmoths (Antheraea yamamai, Antheraea pernyi), mulberry silkmoth (Bombyx mori) and rayon fibers, then the characteristics of the sheets were investigated. The length of fibrils for wild silk pulp was relatively long and made (B-A) elongation of their sheets at tensile test became larger as compared with mulberry one. DMSO treatment was effective for controlling the length of fibrils for wild silks. Silk-rayon blend sheet was tried, however, the dispersion of pulps was not going good. Wild silk sheets showed a larger weight gain at the deposition test of hydroxyapatite
