OBJECTIVE: In order to manage the risk of food origin disguise problems, Japanese nation and consumers' confidence was spoiled for the food security in our country after 2006 because scientific inspection was insufficient in the food production processes.
BACKGROUND: An isotope ratio mass spectrometry instrument was applied to analyze the stable isotope ratio whit change of the light elements (carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, sulfur) in the rice samples. The measurements gave epoch-making result in a traceability study of the growth environment for the rice plantation processes. The research project got an assistance of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Japan and promoted this study furthermore. As the result, it was announced that geographical origin was able to judge plantation processes of rice as agricultural products in 2008. Lots of rice samples were mainly examined to discuss about the stable isotope ratio techniques in detail. Various samples of beef, eel, tea, shell, and chemical product, etc. were also examined for an example.
RECOMMENDATIONS: In this paper, the new development of the food plantation origin judgment study was succeeded for food risk management that enabled to control food safety and security. To investigate reliability of the important food risk
management, the geographical origin judgement methodology was developed by using multi-element isotope ratio traceability study of the growth history information for applying various agricultural products.
