The Fukushima Prefectural Centre for Environmental Creation is a base facility established in Fukushima
prefecture aiming for environmental recovery from the radioactive substances released after the Fukushima
Daiichi nuclear power plant accident that occurred as a result of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The three
organisations, namely ‘Fukushima Prefecture’, ‘Japan Atomic Energy Agency’, and ‘National Institute for
Environmental Studies’, work together under the same roof to coordinate a comprehensive approach to the
areas of (1) monitoring, (2) survey and research, (3) data collection and transmission, and (4) education, training, and exchange. In this paper, we will introduce a summary of the various projects operated by the ‘Fukushima Prefectural Centre for Environmental Creation’ and the ‘Waste disposal team,’ which are focusing research on waste products generated daily within Fukushima prefecture. The objectives include radiation measurement, decontamination, waste disposal, environmental dynamics, and environmental creation conducted by the Research Department of Fukushima Prefecture. Moreover, we will also introduce our research on municipal-solid-waste incinerator ashes, including radiocesium, which has been conducted by the first author of this paper in collaboration with the ‘Institute of Environmental Radioactivity, Fukushima University’ and ‘Chiba Institute of Science.’
