We investigated mammal fauna and the differences of their habitat usage based on infrared-triggered camera on western Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. Cameras were set on seven points on forest, seven points on abandoned land, and 17 points on Miscanthus sinensis grassland during July to November 2015. Although nine mammals were photographed, 68.4% of these photographs were those of Cervus nippon. Abandoned land and Muscanthus sinensis grassland were mainly used as feeding site for Cervus nippon, Sus scrofa and Lepus brachyurus. The appropriate management of lands, especially, abandoned land and Miscanthus sinensis grassland may lead to prevent the increasing of Cervus nippon and Sus scrofa populations.

The ariommatid, Ariomma brevimanum (Klunzinger, 1884), is recorded from Kashiwa-jima island and east of Cape Muroto, Kochi Prefecture, Japan, on the basis of a single specimen respectively. It represents the third record for the species from Shikoku. The two specimens are described and their photographs are provided. ontogenetic proportional and color changes are discussed. Examination of the two specimens revealed that irregular black blotches on the body disappeared with growth between 138.0 and 173.5mm standard length.

The use of roosts by Ussurian tube-nosed bat (Murina ussuriensis) was studied using artificial dead leaves composed of hemp or paper. From mid-April 2013 to late November 2014, leaves were placed on branches in the lower layer of the forest. Groups of females were observed seven times from mid-May to mid-June, corresponding to the pregnancy period. The number of individuals in the roost changed in each observation. A mother and her infants were observed in mid-June, and two mothers and their infants were observed at the end of July. After August, females roosted individually, with one exception. The use of leaves by a single male was observed during the study period. Owing to recapture, some individuals tended to stay in the study sites or return to the site in the next spring.

In November 2016, a total of 541 crevices at the junctions of elevated railways were visually inspected in central Kochi Prefecture to assess the roost use by bats. The author found 775 bats in 161 crevices. All bats were considered to be the common Japanese pipistrelle Pipistrellus abramus, and rare bat species were not found. Although the urban environment had positive effects on the roost use by bats, cultivated lands and forests had negative effects on it.

A female Lates japonicus Known as akame in 1036mm standard length was caught by set-net off Shiina in Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture on 2 February, 2017. The specimen represents a new locality for the species in Kochi Prefecture. Some diagnostic characters of this fish differed from the original description of the species. Important morphometric and meristic characters of the species are reviewed based on published and unpublished data.

Macrophthalmus microfylacas (Crustacea: Decapoda: Macrophthalmidae) was colledted from a tical flat in Uranouchi Inlet, Tosa Bay, Kochi Prefecture, Japan. A total of 17 crab specimens were obtained from September 2012 to December 2017, of which three were ovigerous. The specimens were identified as M. microfylacas by the characters of small body size, long eye peduncle and the shape of male cheliped.

Nipponomysella subtruncata (Heterodonta: Galeommatoidea), symbiotic with the sipunculan worm Siphonosoma cumanense was collected from Uranouchi Inlet, Tosa Bay, Kochi Prefecture, Japan. This clam has been designated as one of the nearly threatened species both by the Ministry of the Environment and by the Japanese Association of Benthology. The locality was a small intertidal sandy mud flat on the southern coast of the Inlet. This is the first record of the clam from southern part of Shikoku Island.
