Changes in macrofouling community in Shonai inlet, the Hamana Bay is reviewed by comparing the results of sampling conducted during 1972-'73, 1980-'81 and 1987-'88.
Membranipora sp.,
Celleporina sp. (Bryozoa),
Limnoperna fortunei kikuchii (Bivalvia),
Balanus eburneus (Cirripedia) invaded into the inlet, while
Conopeum reticulum (Bryozoa),
Balanus reticulatus, Balanus kondakovi, Balanus improvisus (Cirripedia) disappeared from the inlet.
Balanus amphitrite has expanded its distribution and dominated at the inner area of the inlet instead of
B. reticulatus, which was dominant in the earliest study. Fixation of the mouth of the bay and digging waterway have resulted in increase of salinity of the bay. This increase is discussed as a background of changes in macrofouling community.
