The Networking and Computing Service Center at Yamagata University has a history of progressing with the development of the Internet. The history started with connecting, and next proceeded with router failure handling, server construction, and software support in Japanese. Around 2000, the Internet spread to homes, and firewalls were used to implement security measures. In 2005, single sign-on was introduced to curb user account bloat, and digital certification was introduced to avoid the phishing scams. The Great East Japan Earthquake made communication lines and power supplies redundant, highlighting the vulnerability of such communication lines. In 2019, we supported the enhancement of wireless LAN and the use of web conferencing tools, virtual desktops and VPNs to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection. Nothing has changed after 40 years, and it seems that it is all about how to connect users to the services of the Networking and Computing Service Center and provide a smooth educational environment.
Aspiration which is caused by the ingestion/swallow difficulty has a bad influence upon “the quality of life of people with dysphagia”, for it reduces appetite. In order to prevent aspiration of liquid foods during meals of the people with dysphagia, it is effective to impart viscous resistance to liquid foods following FILS (Food Intake LEVEL Scale) of the object person. However, it is difficult to add a thickener quantitatively to liquid foods in the sites of medical and nursing care, based on the subjectivity and experience of dietitians. Thus, a simple measuring machine that quantitatively evaluates the viscous liquid foods was developed. The obtained value is defined as “Thickness Resistance Value (TRV)” and treated as a unit unique to this machine. In this study, the relationship between TRV and viscosity was clarified by time dependence of drinking water with thickeners added. In addition, a physical property table was created using TRV of thickeners and nursing care foods, and its usefulness was examined. As a result, the time dependence of drinking water with thickeners, a strong positive correlation was confirmed between TRV and viscosity (Water : r = 0.94, Tea : r = 0.98, Juice drink : r = 0.97). From these results, it was clearly shown that TRV obtained a value similar to viscosity regardless of the type of thickeners and drinking water. On the other hand, a physical property table can be expected to serve as a tool both for nutrition guidance and cooperation consisting of multiple thickeners and nursing care foods, for this table is easy to have a common understanding among other professions.
The mowed lawn grass generated by lawn mowing accumulates as a thatch layer. The thatch layer clogging the turf and providing a hotbed for pathogens causes various obstacles toward the turf. The purpose of this study is to reduce the volume of thatch (main component: cellulose) at a low cost by utilizing thatch-degradation bacterium in the world of nature. We prepared capsules containing thatch-degradation bacterium using calcium alginate as a wall material, and soaked them with a sugar solution such as glucose, sucrose or trehalose as a protective agent for long-term stability. Bacillus pumilus NBRC12092 was selected from the results of cellulose degradation tests. In addition, by applying the protective agent treatment to the capsule, the microorganisms in the capsule could be protected from the load due to the drying treatment. A high decomposition activity for the decomposition of cellulose was maintained even after 21 days in the storage assay and cell population was approximately maintained 108 cells/g. The ability was effectively improved by the addition of the protective agent.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) act as oxidative stress and become a factor of aging, and ROS are deeply related to aging in Caenorhabditis elegans (C.elegans). Paraquat is used as a compound that produces ROS in C.elegans. High-concentration paraquat (100 mM) increases the ROS level and produces a lethal action. In contrast, low-concentration paraquat (0.1-0.2 mM) increases antioxidant enzyme activity and extends the lifespan in C.elegans. On the other hand, there are few reports on the effects of paraquats of several mM to several tens of mM on C.elegans. In this study, we clarify the effects of paraquat treatment (2.5-10 mM) on ROS and antioxidant enzyme (SOD, CAT) activity in C.elegans. We revealed that the longer the paraquat treatment period, and the higher the paraquat concentration, the higher the increased levels of ROS and increased SOD activity.
System failures include hardware failures and software failures. However, most of them are software failures. A redundant system is usually used to improve the reliability of hardware, but even if the same redundant principle is applied to a software system, each module (program) is a copy of the original, resulting in errors occurring in the same location without improving the reliability. Additionally, although a hardware failure can be detected relatively easily by human five senses, a software failure is difficult to be detected except in extreme cases such as when the system is stopped or gets out of control. To address these issues, this paper proposed a system that enables a robust redundancy for software. The proposed system monitors the control flow of the software and when an irregular flow is detected, the control flow shifts to another module with same function but different coding. The proposed redundant system is superior to existing single module system or other redundant systems in detecting errors and improving software reliability.
Barley tea is particularly popular in Japan, and it is very popular as a thirst quencher in the summer. It is said to be a healthier alternative to coffee, and it delivers both flavour and nutrition. Japanese people are famous for their excellent health and long lives. Due to its caffeine free content, it is perfect for those who are sensitive to stimulants. Proponents say that it balances antioxidation, peroxynitrite-scavenging activity and blood sugar levels regulation activity. Also, the light bitter flavour refreshes senses in the morning, helping people to become ready for the day ahead. In this paper, the chemical components and these bioactivities in barley tea are discussed.
Solid-electrolyte batteries are attracting attention as post-lithium batteries. It is expected that solid-electrolyte batteries are highly safe because they do not use highly flammable organic solvents and can be charged quickly. However, in the current solid-electrolyte battery, metallic lithium is deposited on the negative electrode during quick charging, and a micro short circuit with the positive electrode has become a problem. We applied the method of piggyback stacked dual transmission line as an equivalent circuit of electrode for liquid-based LiB to solid-electrolyte battery, and succeeded in deriving its analytic function. Utilizing this, we searched for conditions to make the uniform current distribution in a short time, and found that the electron resistance to about 40 % of the ion resistance will be the best choice to prevent metallic lithium deposition.
Watasemycin is a novel antibiotic having activity against Gram-positive and negative bacteria, yeast, etc. isolated from actinomycete (Streptomyces sp.) TP-A0597 in deep sea water of Toyama Bay. Its structure is characteristic of a continuous thiazoline ring and thiazolidine skeleton. In this paper, we report the fast synthesis of Thiazostatin and Watasemycin, which are key to the construction of thiazoline ring and condensation of thiazolidine ring from aldehyde derivative via condensation reaction of salicylic acid derivative and corresponding amino acid.
Due to the increase in infection with the new coronavirus, it has become difficult to practice the conventional practical lessons. Exercise opportunities are one of the daily activities necessary for health management and maintenance. It’s expected that it will be difficult to secure the necessary exercise opportunities in school education due to the new coronavirus waiting at home. So we practiced “health and physical education classes” by distance education. In this distance education, using a physical education program that can be practiced in the room at home, you will learn the continuous practice attitude of exercise for maintaining your own health, and develop the ability to devise and assemble exercises according to your physical condition. The purpose was. There are few examples of practical reports of physical education lesson programs by distance education, and we propose a new style of education method in subjects that involve practical skills.
The authors have proposed an automated inspection on the control flow of computer programs, but its theoretical analysis has not been reported by other researchers yet. The automatic inspection on the control flow of a computer program is to check whether instructions are executed in intended order while executing the target program. The authors developed this automatic inspection by tracing the inconsistency between the execution of the target program and the general flowchart while using an interpreter to trace the flow. In this paper, after theoretically confirming each process of the automatic inspection algorithm, the following three points are discussed regarding the equivalence of the flow chart control flow and the program control flow. (1) The number of control flow paths in the flowchart is shown to be less than or equal to the number of program control flow paths when the program is coded correctly. (2) The necessary and sufficient condition for the input set selecting the control flow path of target-P which does not satisfy any control flow in GF to become empty set is that the macro statement becomes allocation statement for any input value, provided that the branches described in the flowchart are correctly coded. 3) we discuss the equivalence of the flow chart control flow and the program control flow.
This study aims to identify the factors affecting the characteristics of samples, such as photoluminescence intensities, and identify the relationship between performance improvement and the search parameters for material composition. Subsequently, we optimize the experimental conditions to provide the maximum characteristic value. First, the process parameters are introduced as input values to the artificial intelligence (AI)-based model; then, we obtain a generalized equation to establish relationship between the characteristics of the samples and the process parameters. Subsequently, the new samples suitable for determining an accurate model and optimizing the process parameters are calculated and recommended to the user. Finally, the obtained formula is optimized, and the optimum values for achieving maximum characteristic are determined. Experimental validation using the AI program developed in this study found that the two components (x, y) that provide the strongest PL intensity in the Srx(La10–x–yEuy)(SiO4)6O3–x/2 (x=2–6, y=0.6–1.2) red-emitting phosphors can be easily estimated from approximately 10 initial data points.
