I captured a female Blackish cicada (Cryptotympana facialis) on the stairs of a pedestrian bridge in Tokyo, Odaiba on August 26, 2017. There are some reports on its distribution in our country, but remains unclear whether it inhabits Tokyo in large number. I heard the call of Blackish cicada for the first time in Odaiba in the summer of 2016. Furthermore, based on what I heard in the summer in 2017, and the capture of a female cicada, it appeared that this species is more likely to settle in Odaiba. In Osaka-shi, the Optical fiber cable snapping accident and noise pollution owing to the call of Blackish cicada were reported. Therefore, this insect is recognized as an urban insect pest. In Osaka-shi, I comment on the process that became an urban insect pest of this species.
