Solvent extraction of copper-azido complex into chlorobenzene was studied. In the optimum conditions the copper-azido complex was extracted quantitatively into 10 m
l of chlorobenzene in the presence of tetraphenylarsonium chloride by a single extraction, and the extract had the composition of 1:4:2 (Cu : N
3- : TPA). The absorption maximum of the copper complex was 425 nm and its absorbance was nearly constant at pH 67, and the absorbance did not change over 2 hrs. Molar absorptivity was 4.30×10
3, and this was slightly higher than 1:2:2 (Cu : N
3- : py) complex. The Beer's law held over the range of 213 mg/
l Cu.
