44 species of butterflies collected in Yakutsk and its vicinity, eastern Siberia, in the end of July, 1989 were reported with collecting data and some ecological comments. Most of them are non-forestal butterflies, which inhabit dry field like steppe (e.g. Colias hyale, Heodes virgaureae, Coenonympha amaryllis and Hesperia comma) or the tundra with the vegetation of Vaccinium, Carex and lichens (e.g. Colias palaeno, Vacciniina optilete and Clossiana selene). Only four species are forestal butterflies, which inhabit sparse woods of Larix dahurica (Oeneis jutta and O. magna) or of deciduous broad leaf trees such as Betula and Salix (Polygonia c-album and Nymphalis xanthomelas). Only four of the collected 44 species were shared with 26 species in the middle of June, 1994. The fact suggests that the butterfly season of Yakutsk and its vicinity almost changes during a month and a half.
