In this part, the results of the studies on the moment due to the statical friction of a ball screw under light load by the single nut procedure are reported. The results of the experiments are as follows:
1) The efficiency of the ball screw is generally over 90%.
2) The amount of the moment due to the statical friction of a ball screw has the directional characteristics.
3) The important cause of the fact stated above lies in the hericoidal shaped race-way and the ball guide.
4) The greater the curvature of the screw surface profile, the better for the frictional character of the ball screw.
5) The moment due to the statical friction of the ball screw at the state of plastic deformation is far larger than that of the elastic deformation.
6) A slight decrease of the radius of the balls inserted between the lace-ways or a slight difference in the accuracy of the lace-way influences little to the moment due to the statical friction.
7) To use the motor oil is most suitable for the diminishing of the moment due to the statical friction of the ball screw, and the grease is the worst and the light oil is a little better than the grease.
