Educational material using five-colored finger puppet gloves and original songs for stimulating the five senses of learners was developed and used in dietary education for children. The results were as follows :
· By using puppet “five-colored finger gloves” and by listening to and singing the “original songs,” children were stimulated toward learning about diet.
· Each five-colored finger puppet glove was designed as a character : ”Yellow Riki-Maru (Cereals),” “Red Niku-Maru (Meat and bean products),” “Green Beji-Maru (Vegetables),” “White Hone-Maru (Dairy products),” and “Purple Furutsu-Maru (Fruits).” The use of these characters as well as the song for conveying the message contributed toward understanding the children’s interests and concerns, thus enhancing the effectiveness of practicing dietary education.
· The material enabled the children in enjoying the process of thinking about the food used in the menus for school lunches.
