A report from observation of the flumina pilorum (stream of hair) on the back of the natives of Sawada (153 persons in healthy condition). The results are as follows:
    (1) The percentage of each type of the stream of hair on the back: The Sctype (collective stream of hair) 39%, the (-)-type (scant stream of hair, viz, invisible) 22% the Wl-type (curled vortex turning to the left) 22%, the Wr-type (curled vortex turning to the right) 13%, the Sk-type (crossed stream of hair) 4%, the Sd-type (separated stream of hair) none, the Saus-type (radiating stream of hair) none, the Sanz-type (thick stream of hair) none, and the Wd-type (double curled vortex) none.
    (2) There were no sexual differences.
    (3) The differences seen by age: The percentage of the (-)-type increases with age, but the percentage of the W-types decreases with age. And in kataplasis (old age) cases of the Sc-type are scarecely found although those of the Sk-type are found exclusively among the aged.
    (4) The position of each type: (a), In most cases the W-types appear in the central part of the back and then they decrease with age; but in some cases they appear on the side of the individuals and then they increase with age. (b) The Sc-type also appears in most cases in the central part of the back. (c) In all cases the Sk-type appears in the central part of the back.
    (5) The result of my observation is similar to that of Dr. TSUDA'S which deals with Semi-Kyushu men. This fact seems to me to suggest that the natives of Sawada are the'descendants of the Utsunomiya families in Kanto as are said they are.
