In the previous paper, quantitative determination methods of print gloss, smoothness on print and print unevenness of solid print areas were described. In this paper, quantitative methods for evaluating print qualities in both line and dot areas have been investigated in detail.
The results obtained are as follows:
(1) Sharpness and resolution: Sharpness and resolution have been evaluated on the basis of the optical density variation of Gretag's concentric circle chart by using the Photo Pattern Analyzer. These methods have been ehown to be effective to describe the difference in sharpness and resolution of micro line areas.
(2) Dot reproduction: Dot area and dot shape have been determined in terms of dot area ratio and shape factor, which have been measured by use of the Luzex Image Analyzer. These evaluations have clearly demonstrated real dot area and dot shape.
(3) In consequence of the fundamental studies by calculating the deviation value from the Murray-Davies curve, it has been possible to detect the states of tone reproduction.
