The following is an abstract from the observations after Westergreen's method on the blood-sedimentation among 458 students of the middle and primary school students in Nare Prefecture.
I. A m ong the middle school students, the average of Katz's index of the bloodsedimentation of boy-students was 5.9 mm., and that of girl-students was 9.9 mm. —thus it is higher in girls than in boys: while among the primary school children, that of boys was 12.7 mm. and of girls 10.4 mm. —thus it is higher in boys than in girls.
II. The blood-sedimentation among the positive of intracutaneous tuberculin reactions showed a tendency to be higher than among the negative.
III. About its relations with the blood-type, I cou l d not reach any clear conclusion, though there seemed to be some differences among each type.
IV. The blood-sedimentation was pretty high among the malnutritive and those who had decayed teeth.
V. Those who had Katz's index of more than 20 mm. were as follows:
boys; 16 out of 261— that is, 6.1 per cent.
girls; 19 out of 137— that is, 13.6 per cent.
Thus the percentage of girls showed two times as much as that of boys.
The clinical observations of them also showed that most of them were the positive of intracutaneous tuberculin reactions.
