本研究では，日本の 383大学図書館において，業務，すなわち，の選定，受け入れ，目録作業，及び，利用者サービスに関する各業務が，どのように組織化されているのか，分析を行なう。また，受入雑誌種数，図書館職員数，及び，業務の組織形態に，相関が示唆された。

A study was carried out to determine whether the collection of books and periodicals is efficiently done, by analyzing the rate of utilization by hospital staff members such as physicians, surgeons, medical technologists, nurses, pharmacists and other personnel.
The total number of medical books and periodicals utilized by the hospital staff from 1978 to 1982 was 15, 530, of which 74% was material possessed by out library, and 26% was that of other medical libraries. This indicates a considerably efficient collection of books and periodicals for the requirement as a whole, but in 4 out of 21 medical branchs in our hospital the utilization rates for the periodicals possessed by other libraries were over 40%, indicating insufficient collection in these areas. On the other hand, 36 (15%) of the 244 periodicals possessed by this library were not utilized over the 5-year period studies.
These observations indicate that such a qualitative and quantitative analysis of circulation counting would be useful for refining the book and periodical collection in a library with a restricted budget.

学術雑誌を中心に，表紙にISSN番号が表示されたが増えてきている。本稿では，このISSN（国際標準番号）の一層の普及に資することを目的として，の刊行形態と書誌データへの影響，識別のための固有のコード番号の必要性，ISSNのデータを登録・維持する国際組織であるISDS（現ISSNネットワーク）の設立経緯，その活動内容と最近の動き，ISSN日本センターの発足と歩み，国内のISSN付与状況と課題，JIS X 0306: 1999に規定されているISSN規格の内容，日本センターでの付与作業の実際と登録申請時のFAQについて述べ，最後に国内のISSN付与に関する最近の話題を報告する。
