This chronology of comparative food culture has been prepared as a continuation of the previous publication on the Edo era of Japan. The present chronology covers the period between 1603, the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate, and August of 1868, the month before the beginning of the Meiji Restoration. The authors have compiled information from 382 sources, which include 208 published books and documents and 174 Web pages and institutional electronic documents. The classification of food culture phenomena is identical to that of the previous publication.
