The Great Britain (GB) is the second steamship which was designed and directed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel (IKB). The GB had many characteristics, e.g., six blades propeller, all metal structures, iron tube propeller shaft, four pistons steam engine, chain drive mechanism, wire rigging, etc. The GB was launched in Bristol in 1843, and went on a virgin voyage to London, then she sailed to New York in 1845. She run aground in Dundrum Bay, Ireland, in 1846. After changing the propeller and the engine, she sailed to Austria, India, and San Francisco, and during the Crimean War she was used as a troop ship. After served by 1886, she was used as a hulk for storing coal and wool. At present she has been restored in Bristol. We can understand IKB's talent through GB's engineering and design approaches.
