Connecting a single focusing mass spectrometer with a small computer, an on-line data processing system for the measurement of mass spectra for the purpose of qualitative and quantitative analysis and the calculation of composition has been developed.
The hardware configuration used in this system is a PDP-8/I small digital computer with 8k-words of core memory, a 32k-words of fixed head disc storage, a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter with multiplexer, an

teleprinter, and an output and a control unit used as interface.
The system was evaluated by measurement of mass spectra with hydrocarbons and by analysis of a mixture of lower hydrocarbons. Repeatability of the pattern coefficient was about 0.4 to 0.5% of coefficient of variation, and the relative error of the analysis of a mixture of three hydrocarbons was below 1.0%. Measurement of mass number does not mistake up to
M/e 300.
The features of this system are as follows;
1) Any large modifications of the instrument are not needed.
2) The system is easy and convenient to operate.
3) The calculation method of mass number is simple and accurate.
