The level of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in the plasma was measured in 258 patients, consisting of 198 patients with various cancers and 60 with various non-malignant diseases. As the normal control, the plasma CEA level was examined in 330 apparently healthy individuals and the value was 3.1±1.1ng/ml on the average. If the level higher than 4.2ng/ml could be assumed to be above the normal, 109 out of 198 (55%) patients with malignant diseases were considered to show abnormally elevated CEA values. Based on the above criterion, the CEA titer was abnormally elevated only in 11 out of 60 cases (18%) without cancers. Among cancerous patients, the ones with carcinomas of the digestive tract and the lung exhibited a positive titer of CEA higher than 10.1ng/ml.
When the relationship between the plasma CEA level and histological findings in patients with lung cancer was examined, cases with the adenocarcinoma had more elevated titers than those with any other types of lung cancer. It was also found, by the serial estimation of plasma CEA, that the titer dropped after a successful therapy but elevated again with the recurrence of cancer. Repeated estimation of CEA is thought to be valuable as are indicator for clinical phases of cancer patients.

Annie Proulx’s first novel Postcards is a saga of the disintegration of a rural New England family, whichis so realistically rendered that any connection with Jacques Derrida’s philosophical theory of the post in The Post Card seems unlikely to exist. At the same time, it is evident that the novel is committed to the quiddity of the postcard as a medium that is simultaneously postal and postmodern. Through the clever use of graphically presented patchwork postcards, the novel epitomizes the economical and cultural transfiguration of the twentieth century America. The condition of Postcards may not be manifestly postcolonial, and the epistolary space is only partial, but the idea of the postmodern postal principle prevails in the novel, which registers the diasporic flux of people, place, and time with no destination whatsoever.

This paper presents an analysis of the usage of I in Shakespeare from the viewpoint of grammaticalization. Our main concern is first of all to describe in which circumstances I appears as a pragmatic marker. Then, we will argue that I functions as a pragmatic marker when it is used in imperatives and vocatives. Next, we will claim that differences in the punctuation among Shakespeare's four Folios indicate the development from a repetition marker to a pragmatic marker. Furthermore, the examples of I taken from other dramatists and the Helsinki Corpus will be dealt with in order to compare them with those in Shakespeare. We would like to show in what syntactical conditions and in what genres it was mainly used in Early Modern English.

A new artificial neural network that can reject strange patterns is presented. The new network is an improved version of the RCE network. Each cell in the last layer of the present network has two thresholds. The new threshold produces the smallest boundary that encloses all examples associated with the cell in the pattern vector space. The present network can reject strange patterns by using this boundary. The rejection of strange patterns in the present and RCE networks was investigated by practical experiments using digits sampled from X-ray films of the human chest.

太陽光発電の急激な成長に伴い、シリコンやインジウムなどの原料は不足をしてきている。アモロファスは真空蒸着技術をつかうために、従来の１／１００の原料で硝子に蒸着できることから高い経済性を得られる。しかも、６％程度しかなかった発電効率はタンデム型という異なる原料を重ね合わすことで１０％の発電効率を可能とし、近いうちに１２％も可能になる。未来型でエコの製造技術のアモルファスはアメリカのファーストソーラーの急激な伸びをみても、証明されている。本研究は、欧州で開発された半導体の基本技術を改良して発電効率を１０％にまで到達させ、性能保証２０年を可能にした内容を示す。建築材料としては、窓や屋根にそのまま施工できること、透明性があり、色彩も５種類を準備することを可能とした。太陽光発電も建材と一体化しないものはフランスでは補助金も少なく、景観との調和が求められ、性能と建築のバランスを確保するデザインの時代になった。

A nationwide investigation was carried out to determine the current susceptibility status of Culex quinquefasciatus populations against four classes of insecticides: DDT, propoxur, malathion and permethrin. Tests were conducted in accordance to standard WHO mosquito larva and adult bioassay procedures. Across 14 study sites, a wide variation of insecticide resistance was developed in Malaysian Cx. quinquefasciatus in larva and adult . Both larval and adult bioassay exhibited dissimilar trend in susceptibility. Overall, the resistance status of Cx. quinquefasciatus larvae in descending order is: malathion (mean RR₅₀ = 6.33) > DDT (mean RR₅₀ = 2.31)>propoxur(mean RR₅₀ = 1.73) > permethrin (mean RR₅₀ = 1.65), whereas the resistance status of Cx. quinquefasciatus adults in descending order is: DDT (% mortality = 15.91) > propoxur (32.18%) > malathion (47.14%) > permethrin (75.67%). Statistical analysis indicated that there was a significant correlation between propoxur and malathion resistance (r = 0.780, p = 0.001) and between propoxur and permethrin resistance (r = 0.613, p = 0.020) in larval stage. The results obtained from this study provide baseline information for vector control programme conducted by local authorities. The susceptibility status of this mosquito should be monitored from time to time to ensure the effectiveness of vector control operations currently practised in Malaysia.

This paper explains how J. -B. 's recognition of political economy involves not only economic phenomena in the strict sense, but also the institutional factors which constitute market society, i. e., property and rational agents. According to , political economy was due to discover “nature des choses” by adapting the experimental method, and this perspective differs from Ricardo's counterpart, which contains abstruse deduction. Revealing the main contents of “nature des choses” about the socioeconomic sphere enables us to reinterpret the political economy in 's design. The factors he considered are as follows: (1) the decisive importance of property and thus ownership, because the existence of a certain society depends on them; (2) “principe de l'utilité” as a criterion utilized by rational agents; (3) several laws regarding exchange that ultimately represent the production, distribution and consumption of social wealth, (4) “théorie des débouchés” which is useful to scale to what extent the above-mentioned factors are soundly united. Therefore, 's recognition of political economy is more wide-ranged than commonly supposed. As long as political economy is grasped in his thinking on the basis of “nature des choses” about the socioeconomic sphere, could not help but be induced to analyze the conditions and automotive characteristics inherent in a market society. Proposing that political economy should be called social economy, expressed his profound intentions.

One of the key characteristics of small modular reactors (SMRs), as their name emphasised, is the modularization. Modularization implies factory production, which in turn implies transportation of large, heavy, complex and fragile modules from the factory to the site. Various vendors and organisations are developing several SMR concepts and designs, but there are extremely limited information about the crucial element of modules transportation. Conversely, in other industries (e.g. Oil & Gas), the experience on modules transportation is much greater. This paper provides a structured analysis for the knowledge transfer from the general literature (i.e. other major infrastructure) to the SMR world. Firstly, the paper provides a summary of the literature about transporting large modules. In the second part, the paper presents and discusses the results of a series of interviews with transport industry experts about large modules transportation. The third part provides a summary of the findings and the key takeaways.

The method of using model analysis in discussing a crisis was presented by Okishio (1976). He insisted that crisis theory is part of the assumption of Marx's schema of reproduction ( identity), and introduced independent investment function. Nagashima price adjustment model (1994), (2006) examined in this paper is one of the models in which the investment function is introduced. This model has already been examined by Ishikura (2007) and Nakatani (2007). However, both Ishikura (2007)and Nakatani (2007) evaluate the Nagashima model from the growth theory viewpoint. In this paper, I reexamine the character of the model from a crisis theory view. The purpose of the model concerned was to set up the system including crisis by getting rid of Marx's schema of reproduction, and introducing the investment function. Nevertheless, it is proven in this paper that the Nagashima model does not contain the crisis (supply-demand imbalance). In his model disequilibrium in goods market is dissolved without fail because demand side is smoothly adjusted according to the supply. In a word, "quasi- law ( equity)" exists. This becomes clear by investigating the determination mechanism of the temporary equilibrium in his model. First§the Two-secter model of Nagashima is converted into single sector, holding its essential characters. Second, by using this one-secter model, the mechanism achievement of temporary equilibrium is clarified. As a result, it can be shown that the supply-demand imbalance can not be discussed in his model. Third, the structural aspect of the Nagashima model is made clearer through the comparison with Okishio operation rates model. And the equilibrium that Nagashima states (constant price) is examined. Finally, after the wage function is simplified, a general solution of the model is derived. Consequently, a general character of the model can be investigated. However, regarding this general solution it must be noted that the long-term continuation condition is shown after the supply-demand imbalance is removed.

Sensor networks are often used to understand underlying phenomena that are reflected through sensing data. In real world applications, this understanding supports decision makers attempting to access a disaster area or monitor a certain event regularly and thus necessary actions can be triggered in response to the problems. Practitioners designing such systems must overcome difficulties due to the practical limitations of the data and the fidelity of a network condition. This paper explores the design of a network solution for the data acquisition domain with the goal of increasing the efficiency of data gathering efforts. An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is introduced to address various real-world sensor network challenges such as limited resources, lack of real-time representative data, and mobility of a relay station. Towards this goal, we introduce a novel cooperative path selection framework to effectively collect data from multiple sensor sources. The framework consists of six main parts ranging from the system initialization to the UAV data acquisition. The UAV data acquisition is useful to increase situational awareness or used as inputs for data manipulation that support response efforts. We develop a system-based simulation that creates the representative sensor networks and uses the UAV for collecting data packets. Results using our proposed framework are analyzed and compared to existing approaches to show the efficiency of the scheme.

Oral anticoagulation is the most effective drug for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation (AF). Until recently, the only oral anticoagulant drug class available for our clinical use is the Vitamin K antagonists (VKAs, e.g. warfarin). Nonetheless, warfarin use is limited by significant inter- and intra-patient variability, as well as the dis-utility of needing anticoagulation monitoring (to keep within a narrow therapeutic range) and the diet/drug/alcohol restrictions associated with these drugs. Thus, prior stroke risk stratification guidelines have tried to artificially divide patients into low, moderate and high stroke risk strata, eventhough these categories do not have good predictive ability. Given the dis-utility associated with the VKAs, uptake of oral anticoagulation is also limited, with high rates of discontinuation after initiation. With the availability of new oral anticoagulant drugs (either the oral direct thrombin inhibitors or oral Factor Xa inhibitors class of drugs), a paradigm shift has been made towards getting better at identifying truly low risk patients who do not need any antithrombotic therapy, whilst those patients with one or more stroke risk factors can be considered for oral anticoagulation. The latter can be given as well controlled warfarin, or one of the new oral anticoagulants. This approach is recommended within the 2010 European Society of Cardiology guidelines for the management of AF.

An analysis was made of C-banded karyotype of Acanthoscelides obtectus () from Slovakia (Central Europe). The results indicate that the chromosome number is 2n=20 (the ancestral number for bruchid beetles). The males possess XY type of the sex-chromosome mechanism. The sex-chromosome mechanism in the females is, however, XX type. 5 pairs of autosomes are metacentric, 3 pairs are submetacentric and 1 pair is subtelocentric. The X chromosome is submetacentric and the Y subtelocentric. The sex chromosomes are the smallest elements of the set. The examined karyotype shows only pericentromeric position of constitutive heterochromatin in all autosomes and the sex chromosomes X and Y.

Three developmental stages of Caprella equilibra have been studies - a young of 10 mm in body length, a semi-adult of 12mm and a full-grown of 22mm. In the young, the second antenna is longer than the peduncle of the first antenna, and in the fully grown, it is about 1/2 or 1/3 the length of the first antenna. This difference probabiy due to unusual growth of the second and third segments of the first antenna. The flagellum of the first antenna is consisted of 10 joints in the young, of 12 in the semi adult and of 18 in the fully grown. As she animal grows, the first and second segments grow excessively, so that the first segment attains almost twice as long as the third segment, and the second almost thrice the third. Lateral spines are growing in second, third, fourth and fifth segments. As the animal grows, the ratio between the length of hand and the whole body length decreases, but that between palmar tooth and palmar poison tooth increases. Such differences are peculiar to the aged individual of this species.
