    Recently, the number of elderly people who take medicines daily has been increasing due to the aging population. Because elderly persons tend to experience cognitive deterioration, some may have difficulties in complying with their medication regimens. Therefore, we propose a new fuzzy-based inference algorithm to assist caregivers by providing them with remote monitoring capabilities. In this study, we developed an intelligent living environment with radio frequency identification (RFID) readers to detect when a person inappropriately self-administer medications with meals or drinks, for which coadministration is contraindicated and would decrease beneficial effects of the medicines or produce serious adverse effects. In the laboratory, RFID readers were strategically placed in a novel intelligent medicine case and around the kitchen. The readers recognized RFID tags affixed on objects such as medicines, foods, beverages, and drinking vessels. A wireless device with flow sensors was also placed in the kitchen unit to measure tap water consumption. Our experiments confirmed that based on the proposed algorithm, the system was able to recognize the presence of objects and usage of tap water, and to detect a typical contraindicated coadministration of a medication with a particular food product. The results indicate the potential of the system to directly alert caregivers by using the intelligent medicine case, in order to prevent inappropriate medication administration.

    In the previous study, we developed a flexible pneumatic cylinder. A wrist rehabilitation device using these cylinders was also proposed and tested. To improve the position control performance of the cylinder, a disturbance observer with time-delay compensation and Smith’s compensator were applied into a built-in tiny embedded controller for position control of a single cylinder. As a result, it was confirmed that 40% improvement of the mean absolute error in experiments was achieved by using the proposed control scheme. In the next step, we aim to apply the improved controller into the attitude control system of the whole wrist rehabilitation device using three cylinders in which there exists an interference among three cylinders. To install the control system, it is necessary to measure lengths of bending cylinders. In this paper, we apply the disturbance observer to the attitude control of the device, and we propose a measuring method of bending tube length by using a twisted wire type linear potentiometer and a simple analytical model. Then, the proposed method is applied to the attitude control of the device.

    In presented project they have been going to design an 8x8 LED matrix display, for that they have been going to interface an 8x8 LED matrix module with AVR microcomputer. An 8x8 LED matrix contains 64 LEDs which are arranged in the form of a matrix MODULE with chip MAX7219. Regarding circuit diagram and explanation, the connections which are done between AVR microcomputer and LED matrix module are, LOAD, CLOCK, DATAIN, +5V and 0V of LED module, respectivly. On the other hand, it is difficult to do the modification truly original cost free display Japanese kanji character system without on a major scale PC communicated and controlled continuously. All over kind of Japanese character display system is best way to propaganda tool for new comer invitation and attraction for any kind of instant gadget, additionaly using bluetooth, using wireless RS232C serial UART as the controller boards around the following features, always keeping as a system that can be remotely controlled. At a speed of 9600 bps bit time and connect external PC or smart phone, and wireless remote operation is feasible, Serial Port Profile SPP to standard support using non-synchronous serial UART bluetooth classic standards, meanwhile BLE communication is not adopted.

    In a home-based rehabilitation device, a soft mechanism that has a large moving area is attractive. An inexpensive pneumatic driving system using a low-cost control valve is also attractive because the valve is the most heavy and expensive device in the pneumatic driving system. The purpose of the study is to develop an inexpensive and compact pneumatic drive rehabilitation device with a three-dimensional large moving area. In this study, based on the concept that a tetrahedron is a minimum element required to construct a solid body, the tetrahedral-type soft actuator that includes six reinforced extension type flexible pneumatic actuators (EFPAs) and four connectors for vertices was proposed and tested. Each EFPA was set at the position of the side of the tetrahedral frame. Both ends of each EFPA were connected to the connectors in the vertices. The pneumatic driving system using on/off valves and an embedded controller was also proposed and tested. Consequently, it was observed that the tested actuator deformed to various tetrahedral shapes with various sizes by changing the pressure of the EFPA. In addition, a simple analytical model of the device was proposed to perform the tracking control of the top end of vertices. The tracking position control system using a novel pressure-control-type low-cost servo valve and an embedded controller with a D/A converter was also proposed and tested. The low-cost servo valve developed in our earlier study was used as a pressure control valve. Consequently, it was confirmed that the top end of the tested actuator could trace the desired position based on the simple model.

    Energy saving is currently one of the most important issues in the development of battery-powered wireless sensor nodes (WSNs). We have developed a non-volatile reconfigurable offloader for flexible and highly efficient processing on WSNs that uses NanoBridges (NBs), which are novel non-volatile and reprogrammable switching elements. Non-volatility is essential for the intermittent operation of WSNs due to the requirement of power-on without loading configuration data. We implemented a data compression algorithm on the offloader that reduces energy consumption during data transmission. Simulation results showed that the energy consumption on the offloader was 1/21 of that on an ultra-low power CPU.

    This paper presents a pure hardware implementation of CRYSTALS-KYBER algorithm on Xilinx FPGAs. CRYSTALS-KYBER is one of 26 candidate algorithms in Round 2 of NIST Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) standardization process. The proposed design focuses on maximizing resource utilization by reusing most of the functional modules in the encapsulation and decapsulation processes of the algorithm. For instance, the hash module integrates several different hash functions in one module. Efficient parallel and pipelined computations are applied in the NTT module. Through the analysis of simulation and synthesis results, it is found that the proposed work has the advantages of higher frequencies and lower execution times. The scheme operates at 155 MHz and 192 MHz frequencies on Xilinx Artix-7 and Virtex-7 FPGAs, respectively. Compared with the performance of an embedded Cortex-M4 processor, the hardware implementation can achieve a maximum speedup of 129 times for encryption/decryption.

    Recent works on enhancing the comfort and convenience of vehicles have revealed the advantage of various wireless sensor nodes for information collection. For the highly required reliability in vehicles, Reliable Wireless Communication based on Substitute Forwarding (RWCSF) has been proposed. It ensures that 99.999% of communications can finish within 20ms, which is the quality of communication equivalent to wired links. However, the performance was evaluated in very limited situations, where two or more communications never occurred simultaneously and no noise was present. In this paper, we enhance RWCSF to achieve the target communication quality even if two or more communications occur simultaneously. In addition, we evaluate the enhanced method in various types of vehicles that create internal noise.

    The number of inbound tourists in Hokkaido is increasing annually due to tourism promotions and policies, including unique terrain, natural eco-tourism, and outdoor activities. The attractive destinations and journeys information can assemble to predict traveler mobility. Distance and travel times affect travel behaviors in Hokkaido; also, most of the attraction locations are in the countryside and away from the city center. Hence, travel patterns are considered to maintain and improve the tourism atmosphere. In this research, travel patterns analyzed employing Wi-Fi probe data, which was collected in Asahikawa and Furano tourism areas. First, fundamental analysis was conducted at each spot. Next, the three indicators support, confidence, and lift parameters were calculated using the Apriori algorithm, which generally is used in marketing purposes. The results, the usefulness of association rule mining calculation provided rules of the transaction of migration travel characteristics — sequential travel patterns illustrated to identifying significant location toward sustainable tourism development.
