The purpose of this paper is to discuss about the mechanism. i.e. The chicken egg problem caused by the restrained motivation of developers due to the outbreak (increase) of derivative PF products suppresses the creation of OS and applications etc. as complementary products running on PF products in the software industry. Specifically, the paper raises a hypothesis that the outbreak of derivative products of PF products impedes the same-side and cross-side network effects in the two-sided PF and reduces the competitiveness of PF products. Then, the paper exemplifies three cases and derives PF strategic implications for PF product providers.
