Eu2+-doped calcium silicon nitride (Ca2Si5N8: Eu2+) was synthesized by the carbothermal reduction and nitridation of oxide powder prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. The starting materials, i.e., CaCO3, Si3N4 and Eu2O3 (stoichiometric composition for Ca2Si5N8: 1 mol% Eu2+), were mixed with various amounts of C and then heated at a temperature between 1450 and 1650 deg C in N2 atmosphere. The Eu2+-doped Ca2Si5N8 was obtained by heating the mixture at 1550 deg C for 2 h; the amount of carbon was 1.5 times as large as the stoichiometric amount. Similarly, Eu2+-doped Ca2Si5N8 could be synthesized from the mixture of C and oxide powder prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. The resulting powder emitted the orange light when the blue-UV light was irradiated to it.

The gel-casting process is convenient for forming the uniform green body and any shapes, because of hardening ceramics slurry by polymerization reaction. Therefore we studied about an effect of particle-size distribution for slurry's rheology and green body's characteristic. And, we examined the gel-cast slurry suitable for the molding body formation having the high strength.

The model materials having the similar deformation properties of the metals at low stress level and at room temperature were developed. Those materials were mixture of WAX and inorganic powder. The flow curve, representing the deformation property, of model material could be changed to the work softening type, stationary deformation type and work hardening type by controlling content and particle size of powder. As an application example, plane strain backward extrusion experiments of Mg alloy and model material with work soften property were carried out. The material flows were almost the same in both materials with enough accuracy for engineering purpose.

2-RO (R=Ca, Sr, Ba) glass was investigated by means of XRD, SEM, and EPMA. These glasses were heat-treated at 600C for 60 min and analyzed by XRD. The crystal in Bi

3-TiO
2-CaO glass was only Bi

3-TiO
2-BaO glasses were Bi

Li
+ and H
+ ions were electrochemically inserted into amorphous WO
3 films prepared by an R.F. magnetron sputtering method. The depth distribution of the inserted cations was investigated according to the refractive index profiles obtained by a prism coupler method. After cation insertions, the decrease in refractive indices was commonly observed in the WO
3 films adjacent to the ITO electrodes. After further insertions, however, the changes in the refractive index profiles were different in the cases between Li
+ and H
+. The relation between depth distribution of cations and coloration was also discussed.

A super-hemispherical (i.e. truncated spherical) glass lens with gold (Au) nanoparticles was obtained using a surface tension mold (StM) technique. Soda-lime silicate glass was heated on Au-coated glassy-carbon substrate up to 800ºC. The obtained glasses were found to have super-hemispherical shape, and Au nanoparticles were immobilized on its bottom planar surface. The surface plasmon resonance absorption peaks from the obtained samples were comfirmed.

Indentation-induced densification of soda-lime silicate glass is investigated using different types of indenters and an atomic force microscope (AFM). Indentation deformation mechanism of glass under an indenter can be divided into two modes; plastic (or shear) flow and densification. Densified region of indentation impression can be almost completely recovered by thermal annealing at a temperature nearby Tg. Using this technique, the indenter-shape dependence of densification contribution to the total indentation volume is obtained. As a result, it is shown that a sharper indenter results in shear flow, and that a blunter indenter leads to densification under the indenter.

In this study, crystallized glasses consisting of SBN nanocrystals with a tetragonal tungsten-bronze structure are synthesized using a conventional glass crystallization technique in SrO-BaO-Nb2O5-B2O3 glasses. Nanocrystals of Sr

So Fly Ash had same chemical and mineral component. After hydrothermal reaction, the production amount of tobermorite was decreased by increasing of the replacement rate and the specific surface of Fly Ash. The peak of tobermorite (002) was shifted to low angle along with dissolution of Al in Fly Ash.
