There are two aspects of recognition activities, one is coming to know the name of things, the other is coming to appreciate their nature and characteristics. Though it is easy to learn a name, time is necessary for the understanding of the nature and characteristics of things. Therefore, we think that infants' activities should focus on the understanding of thing's nature and characteristics. Infants' pictures in the lower grades of elementary school are drawn in the recognition activities. Thus they are not pictures, but diagrams. And so we must interpret infants' pictures by not just seeing them.
