It is pointed out that infants' color expression and the contents of the drawing in free drawing differ according to gender lines. Therefore, I wanted to examine what color expression children would show on a given figure focusing on the investigation and analysis of the color expression. The subjects were 207 children aged from 3 to 8 years old in the Czech Republic and in Chiba prefecture, Japan. The figure used was extracted from an IQ test, 16 colored crayons made in Japan were used as the drawing tool, and the investigation was done for about 30 minutes in September, 2000 and in February, 2001. In the correlation according to sex and country, only the boys in the Czech Republic were weak, and the reason was presumed that their development tended to be slow. It was observed that all children were inclined to use their favorite colors whatever the figure was, which verified there was a difference of color expression depending on the sex. On the other hand, when it was clearly understood what the figure was, and the colors were clearly imagined, notional colors were sometimes used and the regional and sex differences were not seen.
