Abstract
In this study, we applied the centration and centrifugation of facial parts, used as makeup techniques for women, to men's faces. We verified two points: the difference in impression changes using makeup and photo processing, and the impression changes directionality between these types of makeup in men. We presented the untouched faces of 11 men and faces whose parts were centripetally or centrifugally arranged using these makeup manipulation methods (22 faces) and photo processing (22 faces) to female participants as stimuli. We asked them to evaluate the traits of friendliness, liveliness, maturity, and intelligence. Centripetalization and centrifugalization caused impression changes. Furthermore, tendencies between makeup and photo processing differed. Specifically, centripetalization using makeup and centrifugalization using photo processing enhanced the evaluation of intellectuality. Finally, findings on impression change caused by centripetalization with makeup on male faces were generally equivalent to those for female ones.
