Abstract

This project is a total design development from a product plan to brand identity in order to spread the Japanese traditional culture; Iyo-Mizuhiki in Ehime prefecture. (Iyo is the district of Ehime prefecture. Mizuhiki is the Japanese paper twine.) The designing of the paper twine and knots for the decoration of Japanese engagement ceremony is still within the traditional craft developed in the history of mizuhiki. As we continue the traditional culture of applying Mizuhiki for ceremony occasions, planning the new Mizuhiki product to suit our modern life style. Mizuhiki has not only historical and cultural value as a manner of knotting gift, but also technical specification of paper material as a high tension. This project is designed to effectively use the material specificity at the same time in the context of Mizuiki traditional culture.
