In conventional Japan, the space in a residence was divided according to the function. Now, such space is being made borderless and it is needed for what is used there, and them to change. This case is a new kitchen item. It was designed in order to make it correspond to the spread phenomenon of an open kitchen or an automatic dishwasher. There is a basket type large [an old drainer tool] and deep. These have the complicated appearance from living and it is not very well. In order to function a drainer lightly, I made the function simple, and I made it the style of the tray, and considered the appearance in space, and the production nature of the tableware itself. And I examined the design as for which a high-class feeling is in the feeling of those who see, or those who use so that it may be regarded as a valuable.

"En-joy" is a series of porcellain tableware interpreting the one-plate-dish theme in a new way. The client, Maebata/Tajimi, is one of the largest trading companies in the Ceramics region of Mino/Japan. While one-plate-dishises (shikiri sara) in Japan originally suffer a very cheep image the design tries to add a more exclusive value to the product. Thus the project is part oft the clients effords, to change their sales approach from large-scale production of low-priced tableware for the mass-market to more high quality products of original design.

In response to a current environmental issues represented by global warming, it is inevitable to search for a potential role of design in a sustainable society. I have found my answer within a bamboo; a material so familiar to us Japanese. Using a bamboo in modern design not as a simple replacementmaterial but incorporating its characteristics such as flexibility and ability to bent into a modern day design. I designed this chair which have transformed their presence from a conventional solid structure to a new flexible structure which gains its flexibility by releasing the force with its swaying power.

During these recent years, the development of digital technology in residential networking and connections; such as home appliances with their various forms of integration (internet cables, power cables, and network cables) has made a positive alteration to the interspatial relationship between appliances, furniture and the corresponding living environment. Furthermore, the interaction and communication between user and appliance has understood progressive changes. In the living room of our future home environment is a typical place that comprises the largest variety of such home appliances. This living space has become a haven for the family and a place for entertainment as well. The downside of the new technologies is the life expectancy of the product which is affected by a simple change or a new development of a medium related to the development of digital technology. An example of that would be the existing product which has to be replaced with a new product pertaining a new medium that matches the latest technology. The aim of this research is to offer a modularization of the electric appliances for family use that can settle such problems that deal with new technologies. It also proposes solutions, through modular home electronics which can deal with or reduce problems such as life expectancy and complicated cable networks in the home environment.

This project is a total design development from a product plan to brand identity in order to spread the Japanese traditional culture; Iyo-Mizuhiki in Ehime prefecture. (Iyo is the district of Ehime prefecture. Mizuhiki is the Japanese paper twine.) The designing of the paper twine and knots for the decoration of Japanese engagement ceremony is still within the traditional craft developed in the history of mizuhiki. As we continue the traditional culture of applying Mizuhiki for ceremony occasions, planning the new Mizuhiki product to suit our modern life style. Mizuhiki has not only historical and cultural value as a manner of knotting gift, but also technical specification of paper material as a high tension. This project is designed to effectively use the material specificity at the same time in the context of Mizuiki traditional culture.

"Identity of Kiyosu City" is the name of a research project requested by Kiyosu City which was undertaken by Koji Shibazaki's department at Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music in Heisei 20. Kiyosu City has been developing since Heisei 17 by combining 4 existing towns into a new city. The contract involved research to evaluate the positive characteristics of this new city and highlight its attractions. There are several parts to this effort. 1) Illustrations of the scenery and people of the area. 2) A blogsite to present research and show the present conditions in the area. 3) A flag with a compelling graphic design representing the names of the old towns which are incorporated in the new town and images of "The way to Mino". We hope our efforts will help people to know about the new town and build a sense of common identity.

Since the introduction of the independent administrative institution system, each national university faces the challenge of building a new image. At Okayama Prefectural University, a VI (visual identity) renewal project was initiated in 2006 (Heisei 18), with implementation to begin in April 2007 (Heisei 19). In constructing this new VI, the University faces the challenge of making its unique characteristics as a regional, moderately sized public university visible, and also of creating a new image. To transmit this image and cause it to take root, the university must develop appropriate application items and must practice effective communication. This work discusses a case study in which the campus instructional staff center, within a limited time frame and on a limited budget, attempted to construct and apply a VI.

The design development process of "Henkaden" was introduced as a theme exhibition in Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, curated by Tomoaki Kitagawa, from 7th July to 23rd September. This exhibition consisted of four chapters (I. Electricity, II. Personal, III. Living and IV. Housings), showing 15 product works with technologies that were designed for small and medium-sized manufacturers to easily develop by low negative environmental impacts and low development cost. Most of the audiences showed their interest and gave positive reponses to the concepts and products by Yamada, so that growing interest in the new electric appliances designed to reconsider our daily life radically is well justified.

This garden has been a prize winning work at the Chaumont International Garden Festival. It was constructed on the spot in France and was open to visitors between April and October 2009. The poem 'I am not alone', written by the French poet, Paul Elouard gave the basis for the concept of the garden. The visitors were welcome to take a seat on a bench under a cherry tree and read the poem from a wooden book placed on the bench. White sand with indigo waves and scattered islands of plants stretched in front of their eyes. Silver-leaves were the main plants on display and among them lustrous thistles waved their colourful heads. The rustic wooden bench and the book of the poem, the contrast of the seasonal, changing colours of the scenery expresses the joy of life overreaching time and space. This garden gave the experience of the world of the 'celebration of love and nature' to its visitors.

The Yabegawa Bridge is a three-span continuous pre-stressed concrete cable-stayed bridge built across the Yabe River between the Fukuoka prefecture, Miyama city, and Yanagawa city as a center bridge. It has become the symbol of the ARIAKE ENGAN ROAD. The length of the bridge is 517m, and the center span length is 261m. Because this bridge has the plane curve, an inclined tower is adopted in order the section force that acts on a main tower has been improved. The rural scene formed by reclaiming Ariake Sea extends to the region of constructing a bridge. The Yabegawa Bridge creates new scenery in the region because of its main tower. Especially, its inclined tower doesn't see the example in another. The feature of an inclination main tower was made the best use of and a main tower was designed symbolically in landscape architecture. The details that reduced sense of oppression to the local population and natural environment were the design. It introduces these examination processes in this text.

The Toshima Bridge is one of eight bridges called the Akinada-Shotou connecting bridges that connect the mainland of Japan to islands in the Seto Inland Sea region in the southern part of Hiroshima Prefecture. The Toshima bridge is the third bridge from the mainland of Japan, and it was built as single steel suspensions bridge which center span is 540m. The region where the bridge spans is in a calm Seto Inland Sea and has a beautiful natural environment that consists of rich green islands. The Toshima Bridge is a large-scale structure that has a main tower and creates new scenery. The design of the bridge was to draw out functional beauty of the structure. The landscape architecture was aimed to attempt harmony with the scenery in the surroundings. Especially in a main tower design, the portion with slender length of the foot was made the best use of, and the design to give a light impression and individuality was done by designing the horizontal brace and the tower top part. In addition, the curve was used for the horizontal brace and the pier shape. Its softness was produced in an attempt to bring harmony with the natural environment. In the painting color of the bridge, it was selected that considered the har-mony of an environmental color.

This work is a visual identity (VI) design for the Busan-Fukuoka Asia Gateway 2011 tourism campaign, which is promoted jointly by sister cities Fukuoka and Busan Metropolitan City, as well as by businesses and universities of both cities. The Busan-Fukuoka Asia Gateway 2011 makes use of the advantages of scale through cooperative promotion by both cities. For example, efforts are being made to create new tourism value with the goal of increasing inbound visitors to both cities by developing travel routes that include both cities and transportation tickets for common usage. Thus, the VI of the campaign is a symbol of the joint cooperation between the two cities, and we intended it to first of all, allow the citizens of both cities to become aware of the connection between the two cities. Moreover, since the campaign is scheduled to continue for a long period-until the end of fiscal 2011-we also considered arrangements for its utilization in variety of promotional tools.

We propose a method for designing emotional and creative motion that extends beyond images currently generated by human imagination and resonate with the deep feelings that reside within us. We discuss design from two perspectives: (1) the motion of natural objects are reflected in the sources of emotional motion and (2) creative and emotional motion, which resonates more with human feelings than do natural objects, is generated by extending beyond the motion of natural objects. We also focus on another perspective of the method for designing such motion, that is, whether or not the motion can be generated by using the traditional method. On the basis of these discussions, we develop a method that involves 'analogy to natural objects' and 'emphatic blending of motions'. We have developed this method by focusing on rhythmic features, and we will illustrate an example of designing an emotional and creative motion using the proposed method. We conducted the experiment to evaluate the designed motions and verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper is about a museum outreach kit we developed featuring the folding screen of "Scenes In and Around Kyoto." The kit comprises three items: (i) replica of the folding screen (one half of the original size), (ii) nine explanation cards visualized by information graphics, and (iii) digital content for portable game device. Museums often lack the enough exhibition space, and accordingly not all items can be exposed to the visitors. In addition, exhibiting the latest findings in historical research requires high costs and tremendous cares. We aimed to develop a kit to address these issues by making use of information design. The kit we developed enables museum users a realistic experience of the unexposed historical items. Furthermore, the kit enables visitors to interpret a historical event in relation to the current society and to the site where it occurred. Accomplishing several field surveys and studies, we completed the development of the kit under the supervision of history researchers and tested its effectiveness through workshops. The kit will be used for middle and high school students' workshops that are performed during the excursion trips.

The necessity for "preparation" is clear. The effect of the preparation tool "Smile" that children could participate became clear. However, children got interested also in a picture-book. There is an element which gives children interest in a popup picture-book. The picture-book was divided into a "scene" and "disposal", and was made. A "questionnaire" and "V.A.S." are planned in the experiment. Furthermore, "preparation" to foreign children is considered. The space crowded on both sides of paper is secured to the background of a round book, and a photograph, an illustration, etc. can be used. As an experiment, the difference in the point of regard of a veteran and a newcomer is due to be measured.

This research is the first trial in the furniture industry that used the new technology of "post-alumite processing" of an aluminum honey cam panel, and made the trial production of the folding table made from aluminum. The conventional aluminum honey cam panel was using the extrusion-molding material which performed alumite processing beforehand for frame material. Therefore, there were many restrictions of a form. In this research, the aluminum flat bar was used for the frame material of a panel, and it became the structure material of furniture. Next, this aluminum flat bar was shaved and alumite processing was performed in the state of the panel. Therefore, in the conventional technology, expression of the style and detail which were not made became possible.
