This study confirms the period of vogue for the installation of pergola-style structures in modern Japanese housing, as well as trends in the shape of the design. The analysis confirms that the installation of pergola-style structures was fashionable throughout the 1930s, reaching its peak in 1933-34. In addition, from about 1930, the shapes of pergola-style structures diversified in response to changes in the design of roofs and eaves. Then, at the end of the 1930s, they rapidly came to an end due to the demands of wartime response.
