This paper reports on the results of experimental studies on the durability of intumescent coating for steel structures. Intumescent coating is a new type of fireproof material which, when heated, provides insulation by foaming. It is in wide use in Europe and elsewhere. However, its durability or long-term fireproofing is not clear. Accelerated and exposure durability tests were carried out and deterioration of fireproofing was examined by heat tests. Based on these test results, test method to evaluate the durability of intumescent coatings is proposed.
