It is very important for performance based design to control the response displacement of the structures for input earthquake. In order to control the response displacement, it is necessary to estimate the response displacement of structures accurately. This report proposes a response displacement estimation method by using a concept of hysteresis energy coefficient based on energy theory. The hysteresis energy coefficient cannot be expressed by explicit function, but can be identified easily by neural network. This report shows that this method can estimate elasto-plastic response displacement accurately and will be effective tool to control response displacement of structures.
