The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between the damage of exterior walls and the residual strength of a wooden house after earthquakes. The two kinds of exterior wall were selected in the experiments, one was consist of a siding and another was made by a mortar. In the siding exterior wall, the nails fixing the siding board come out of after loading. In the mortar exterior wall, the width of the crack around the window expanded with loading. As a result, the residual strength of the house after earthquakes could be presumed from the damage of the exterior wall.
