In this study, the continuous column (C.C.) effects of steel truss spine frame in the multi-story structures are investigated. If the C.C. is designed with steel truss spine frame, the depth of the frame becomes large, leading to rational design. However, when axial stiffness of the braces is small compared with the chords, shear deformation becomes dominant. The correlations of responses predicted by truss spine frames and corresponding Bernoulli-Euler or Timoshenko beam-elements are evaluated. Seismic resistant and control effects by elastic steel spine frames pin- or fix-supported are quantitatively evaluated for the near-fault ground motions.
